Sophie has arrived!

Sophie came a week early! I'm not sure how they schedule things at the Kona animal shelter, but a week before I was supposed to get her, they called to say that she'd just come out of surgery and I should come right away. So I ran!

Sophie Lynn Powers
13 weeks old. Born December 13th (or close enough).
20 pounds and growing fast.

I've had her only 5 days, and she's already halfway to 'housebroken'. She sleeps in her bed (next to mine) without a whimper and without a single accident. When she snuggles on her Rottweiler-sized pillow bed, I'm reminded of The Blind Side -  I doubt she has ever had a bed of her own before. She loves to eat and sleep - she probably didn't get enough of either at the shelter. I suspect she never had toys before either, but she is now the queen of all the Misha toys that I brought with me.

I'll shut up and just show pictures...

Could she be more adorable?

She's Baaaack !!

Aloha, y'all!

I know it's been a while since I posted here. There was really nothing interesting about all the unpacking that seemed to go on forever, and --truth be told-- there are still a couple of dozen boxes in the garage that I've almost lost interest in. Most recently I targeted boxes with old tax records and anything that might contain a receipt that could be used to increase the cost basis on the Avalon house. Uncle Sam is killing me this year.

The reason I'm back on the blog is because interesting things are happening again. Next week, I'll be the proud momma of a puppy girl. I found her at the local shelter this week, and after they spay her next Wednesday, I can bring her home. I'm not sure why the delay, but I'm using the time to get things ready. The backyard fence was completed last week, so as soon as she's old enough and big enough, she'll have a nice big backyard to play in!

Aloha Party Photos

Barbara, Steve, and Megan gave me the most awesome going away party the night before I left!!! My apologies that it's taken me this long to thank them on the blog and post these wonderful pictures. Megan was the Official Party Photographer and she did a great job.

Apologies to everyone who had to have their picture taken with that extremely tired and haggard-looking woman. I worked 24/7 for that last month to get my project finished to that I could finally leave! I'm looking/feeling much better now. :)

Here come the pictures...

That's it! Aloha, y'all!

Aloha Coconut

Our dear, sweet Coconut is gone. He was murdered on Wednesday night by a pack of coyotes. There are no words for how tragic this is or how devastated we all are. Coconut was Misha's best dog friend, and I can only hope they have found each other in Heaven.

Aloha, dear Coconut.

Pictures!

I'll use these pictures to tell the stories of my recent adventures:

Itsy Bitsy Baby Gecko

He's no more than an inch and a half long. Lapping up rain water from my railing.

Tree Dudes Trimming My Palms

They use a strange sling device to climb the trees and machetes to whack the 10' long palm fronds.

Settling In

Ha'iku Place is starting to feel like home. I've got my bed and favorite pillow and Internet access - all the necessities. Slowly but surely I'm working my way through the 300 boxes in my garage and finding things I haven't seen in over a year.

I've hired a gardener and tree trimmer, and I've interviewed a fence guy (gotta have a fence before I can have a dog). I feel as if I've done a lot in a week, but I've got SO much more to do. I'd love to get out in the garden and putter, but getting the house to some minimum level of functionality has to come first.

And sadly... sometime this week, I've got to unpack my work computer and make sure I'm ready to start work on Monday.

Today I vote as an Hawaiian!

Aloha y'all!
