That's it! Aloha, y'all!

Aloha Coconut

Our dear, sweet Coconut is gone. He was murdered on Wednesday night by a pack of coyotes. There are no words for how tragic this is or how devastated we all are. Coconut was Misha's best dog friend, and I can only hope they have found each other in Heaven.

Aloha, dear Coconut.

Pictures!

I'll use these pictures to tell the stories of my recent adventures:

Itsy Bitsy Baby Gecko

He's no more than an inch and a half long. Lapping up rain water from my railing.

Tree Dudes Trimming My Palms

They use a strange sling device to climb the trees and machetes to whack the 10' long palm fronds.

Settling In

Ha'iku Place is starting to feel like home. I've got my bed and favorite pillow and Internet access - all the necessities. Slowly but surely I'm working my way through the 300 boxes in my garage and finding things I haven't seen in over a year.

I've hired a gardener and tree trimmer, and I've interviewed a fence guy (gotta have a fence before I can have a dog). I feel as if I've done a lot in a week, but I've got SO much more to do. I'd love to get out in the garden and putter, but getting the house to some minimum level of functionality has to come first.

And sadly... sometime this week, I've got to unpack my work computer and make sure I'm ready to start work on Monday.

Today I vote as an Hawaiian!

Aloha y'all!

Aloha, Bay Area

Today is my last day in California. Twenty four hours from now, I'll be home in Hawaii!
For the past couple of weeks, I've slept little and eaten much. Everyone I know has graciously taken me to lunch or dinner at all my favorite Bay Area restaurants. I've tried not to think "this is the last time I'll ever eat here."
It was madness trying to wrap up my project at work so that I could ship my computer and put work out of my mind for the next two weeks. But I worked 18-hour days and dug into my stamina reserves and got it all done. Now I can leave with a clean conscience.
There was a going away party at Thermo yesterday - with lots of delicious homemade eats and even a dark chocolate volcano cake with firey red lava, surrounded by sharks in a blue-frosting ocean. :) This afternoon, Megan and Barbara and Steve are hosting an aloha party at their house, where I know there will be a fabulous spread of yummy food. And then tomorrow morning, Barbara drives me to the airport at an ungodly hour and it's "Aloha, Bay Area!"
I hope to see many of you at the party today. And I know I'll see many of you in Hawaii in the not-too-distant future!

Aloha y'all!

One-Way Ticket to Kona

Today, I bought my first one-way ticket to Hawaii -- non-stop from San Jose to Kailua-Kona on Sunday, the 28th. I'll be crossing the threshold of my new house before noon.

Even if I have to sleep on the floor that first night, I'll be sleeping on the floor of MY house in HAWAII!

Aloha y'all!

Anchors Aweigh!

The Guardian shipping dudes come tomorrow to take all my worldly possessions to Hawaii.

Coyote, Misha, and Margay might get to Hawaii before I do.

Aloha 'oe!
I'll see you girls on the other side!
